3 Faces of Marlon
Jordan heralds the unique talent of one of New Orleans most
exceptional trumpet players, Marlon Jordan. It allows Jordan to
transverse along an uncharted path; classical, jazz, and hip hop
music all in a three CD compilation.
Not only does 3 Faces of Marlon Jordan promise to offer Jordan's
unique sonic signature, Marlon has recruited some of the best
musicians that New Orleans has to offer for the jazz segment of the
CD including; pianists Ellis Marsalis & Jonathan Lefcoski,
trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, drummer Troy Davis, bassists David
Pulphus & Neil Caine with select performances by trumpeters Kermit
Ruffin, James Andrews, and Derrick "Kabuki" Shezbie.
Scheduled for a 2009 Valentine's Day release, 3 Faces of
Marlon Jordan goes into production this week beginning with live
recordings from performances in New Orleans at Snug Harbor Jazz
Bistro, 626 Frenchmen Street on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 8:00 pm,
and on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Café Lazziza which is located at
2106 Charters Street.
The recording also announces a multi-recording deal with North
Carolina-based Blue Silk Media, an artist development entity founded
by Macon Thomason of Chapel Hill, N.C.
The classical wing of the of the album will include recordings with
the Czech Film Orchestra which boast of the best European musicians,
including principle players from the Czech Philharmonic, The Czech
National Theatre Orchestra, The Czech Radio Orchestra and others
while the Hip Hop version will include cuts from Marlon's daughter
Lori Jordan whose stage name is Honey Chyl.
Marlon Jordan was one of the "Young Jazz Lions" who were signed,
recorded and promoted on major record labels in the 1980s. He
recorded three impressive LPs for Columbia from 1998 to 1992, For
You Only, Learson's Return, and The Undaunted and one for the
Arabesque label entitled Marlon's Mode in 1997. He returned to the
national prominence with the 2005 Classic Jazz release of Marlon
Jordan featuring Stephanie Jordan: You Don't Know What Love Is.
A victim of hurricane Katrina, Marlon and his siblings' rendition of
Here's To Life from their live televised performance during the Jazz
at Lincoln Center Higher Ground Benefit Concert appears on the 2005
release by Blue Note Records. Stephanie and Marlon embark that fall
for a European Tour as part of the Higher Ground Relief effort
sponsored by the US States Department with stops in Bucharest,
Germany, Lithuania and Ukraine on the thank you tour. Marlon views
his five days on the roof- top during the ordeal as the driving
force for what he calls his "new sound."
Marlon is the fifth performer from a family of New Orleans bred
musicians; father Edward "Kidd" Jordan and siblings Kent, Rachel and
Stephanie Jordan. |
